Calypso Charters is more than a luxury sailing company—it’s a story of heritage, passion, and purpose. Calypso is one of the few charter experiences in the Riviera Maya that is truly born of the region itself.
Our founder, a seasoned diver, mechanic, and licensed captain, grew up in these waters and remains deeply connected to the day-to-day operations. From navigation to engine care, he embodies the spirit of the sea—and the legacy of generations who came before. This hands-on leadership is part of what sets us apart: real people, real roots, and an unwavering respect for the ocean.
Calypso was the first to introduce an onboard chef, believing that a day at sea should nourish both body and soul. We continue to lead with intention—offering an elevated experience while operating responsibly. Our team follows a “view, not take” philosophy when it comes to marine life, working to protect the delicate ecosystems that make this coast so remarkable.
The name
Name with a Legacy
Long before the Riviera Maya was shaped into the destination it is today, this region was jungle, coastline, and reef—raw and untouched. In the 1970s, the legendary explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau was invited to Cozumel to dive the world-renowned reefs. He arrived on his ship: The Calypso.
That vessel became an icon of oceanic discovery—sailing the globe, mounting expeditions that would change how we understand the underwater world. Our name, Calypso Charters, is a tribute to that spirit of exploration, and to the sea itself. It’s a bow to one of history’s most storied ships, and a promise to carry that legacy forward—with purpose and respect.

At the helm, you'll often find the owner himself, a licensed captain, certified diver, and skilled marine mechanic who knows every detail of Dralion and every current of the coast. His lifelong connection to the sea informs the way Calypso is run—with care, with precision, and with pride.
Our onboard chef crafts fresh, gourmet meals inspired by the region and tailored to the day’s charter—whether it's a romantic dinner or a celebratory feast. Meanwhile, the rest of the team is dedicated to making sure your time onboard is effortless, welcoming, and unforgettable.
